Preschool

With an emphasis on communicating ideas through the languages of the arts and sciences, children enrolled in preschool at Opal Museum School discover what they understand, wonder, feel and imagine, taking them to surprisingly high levels of language development and creativity.

Schedule: September-June
Daily schedule: 8:30am-1:30pm M-F
Open enrollment: Applications processed beginning February 1
Age requirement: 3 years, 6 months to 5 years by September 1
Number of students: 17 max.
Nutrition: Healthy snack available. Lunch to be brought from home
Curriculum: Operated by PCM using the same inquiry-based approaches to learning through the arts and sciences as the Museum’s Opal Charter School. Inspired by the early childhood schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Fees & Tuition: (All fees and tuition are non-refundable)

Application fee: $25

Enrollment fee: $150

Tuition: $6,000 for the school year

Extended Care Option:
Portland Children's Museum offers daily extended care for children in the preschool. Care is provided by Museum staff in Museum studios.

Early Kindergarten

Early Kindergarten at Opal Museum School is designed to engage children in a curriculum that provokes them to imagine, wonder, invent, design and create.

We strive to unite joy and learning every day!

Schedule: September-June
Daily schedule: 8:30am-2:30pm, MTuThF, 8:30am-1:30pm Wednesdays
Open enrollment: Applications processed beginning February 1
Age requirement: 4-6 years by September 1
Number of students: 20 max.
Nutrition: A healthy morning and afternoon snack available to all children. Lunch to be brought from home.
Curriculum: Operated by PCM using the same inquiry-based approaches to learning through the arts and sciences as the Museum’s Opal Charter School. Inspired by the early childhood schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy.
